El viernes 5 de julio Canadá venció a la Vinotinto en la tanda de penales en los cuartos de final de la Copa América 2024. Ahora la selección canadiense debe enfrentar a Argentina en las semifinales. El partido se llevó a cabo en el AT&T Stadium en Arlington, Texas (Estados Unidos).
En el minuto 13 Jacob Shaffelburg metió el primer gol para Canadá y Salomón Rondón consiguió el empate para Venezuela en el 64. Este resultado en el marcador los llevó a la tanda de penales, donde salió victoriosa la selección canadiense.
Los venezolanos que estuvieron presentes en el estadio para apoyar a la selección vistieron con la camisa del equipo, alzaron las banderas del país y levantaron letreros en apoyo los jugadores durante todo el partido.
El seleccionador Fernando”Bocha” Batista salió con el mismo 11 de su debut contra Ecuador, con el obligado cambio del sancionado Darwin Machís por Eduard Bello; mientras que Canadá repitió el equipo que empató el último encuentro contra Chile.

Batista devolvió al 11 a Miguel Navarro, Nahuel Ferraresi y Cristian Cásseres Jr., a los que dejó en el banquillo en el encuentro contra Jamaica ante el riesgo de sanción si veían una tarjeta.
